"Thumbs Up" to "Blowing Some Attic Snow"!
home insulation in attic"Having your home properly insulated can save an estimated 25-30% of the cooling and heating season energy costs"
AUSTIN ENERGY

A major source of energy loss and infiltration occurs due to lack of proper insulation and your penetrations not being sealed properly.  The Department of Energy recommends an insulation level of R-38 for our zone.  This equates to roughly 15" to 16" of insulation in your attic.

Generally, if you can see the 2x4 or 2x6 beams of your attic floor, then you will need additional insulation.  If you have fiberglass batts or rolls of insulation, bad news - you will need additional insulation as gaps may exist which reduces your R-Value.

The average home in Austin has an exi
sting insulation value of R-11, equal to approximately 4 inches of insulation - Austin Energy
